Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET)

Symbiosis Entrance Test ( SET ) is a common written test for the admission processes of undergraduate institutes of Symbiosis International University established as under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 vide notification No.F.9.12/2001 U.3 of the Govt. of India. In the year 2002 there were 3 constituent institutes of SIU. Subsequently ten more Institutes of Symbiosis have been brought under the ambit of Symbiosis International University vide notification No.F.9.12/2006-U.3 (A).SET-2015 has 5 different papers; namely, General, Design, Law, Engineering and Health Sciences.It is a mandatory written test for the admission process for the undergraduate programmes of the following Symbiosis institutes namely such as Symbiosis Law School.[SLS] - Pune,Symbiosis Law School.[SLS] – Noida,Symbiosis Institute of Computers Studies and Research [SICSR],Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies[SCMS] – Pune,Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication [SIMC-UG],Symbiosis School of Economics [SSE],Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies[SCMS]-Noida,Symbiosis Institute of Design [SID]. Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts – SSLA Admission Details – 2015

Programs offered:

Bachelor of Arts ( Liberal Arts ):

Economics, Business Studies, Media Studies, Sociology, English, Psychology, or Political Science & Public Policy

Bachelor of Science ( Liberal Arts ):

Biology, Mathematics & Statistics, or Computer Studies

Eligibility.

i. Students graduating 12th from National / State Board and Non Resident Indians (NRI) students appearing for their 12th examinations in India.

ii. Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is mandatory for all applicants, except those who graduate 12th from the International Baccalaureate (IB) board.

iii. Foreign Nationals (FN), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) & NRIs.

iv. Diploma holders of International Baccalaureate (IB): IB Diploma Students with predicted scores may also apply: IB students are exempt for SET since their final exams clash with the SET exam dates.

v.XII (10+2) pass from any branch with minimum 50% marks for the general category and 45% for students of SC and ST category.

Reservation:

As per SIU norms: Differently able 3%; Discretionary (Mgmt Admissions)15%; Schedule Caste 15%; Schedule Tribe 7.5% .

Intake.

Every year, 60 students are invited to join our college + over and above reservation for international students as per SIU policy. In case the SSLA campus shifts to Viman Nagar as per the current plan, the yearly intake will increase to 100 students per year + over and above reservation for international students are per SIU policy.

In keeping with the accepted SSLA admissions process from 2012, SSLA has a slightly differing admissions process for International Baccalaureate (IB) students. The details of the SSLA admissions process for normal and for IB students are as given below:

For all Indian Nationals graduating 12th in India:

Symbiosis Entrance Test ( SET )

Recommended Test: SET General. However, candidates who have given Law / Design SET will also be considered if they have not given General SET for any reason However, these applicants will only be considered if they fall in

The top 100 of their respective Law / Design SET rankings.

Cut off for General SET will be decided as per the applications that SSLA receives.

SET = 50 Marks (i.e. 50 % of total – which is as per SIU guidelines)

Personal Interaction & Writing Ability Test (PI-WAT)

Both will be conducted on the same day for a particular student.

PI = 30 Marks, WAT = 20 Marks (Total PI-WAT = 50 Marks)

Merit List

SET (50) + PI (30) + WAT (20) = 100 Marks

For International Baccalaureate ( IB ) students

All IB students are exempt from SET in keeping with the policy SSLA has been following since 2012. This is because SET clashes with IB exam dates.

Since they do not appear for SET, all IB applicants will be called for PI-WAT.

Apart from the personal interaction and writing ability test, these students will be required to sit for a test that will make up for their lack of SET score. This test will count for 50 Marks (i.e. 50% of total) and therefore will be in line with SIU UG admissions guidelines.

Merit List

IB Students Test (50) + PI (30) + WAT (20) = 100 Marks

Merit Lists will be created in a consolidated manner for IB and Non-IB students. There will be no separate merit list only for IB students.
