Indian Institute of Science Education and Research ( IISER ) PhD Entrance Exam

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Human Resource Development ( MHRD ), has established five Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research ( IISER ). These institutes are located in Bhopal, Mohali, Pune, Kolkata and Thiruvanantapuram. The IISERs represent a unique initiative in India where teaching and education are totally integrated with state-of-the-art research nurturing both curiosity and creativity in an intellectually vibrant atmosphere of research. IISER announced admission for the motivated candidates to PhD and Integrated PhD progrrammes in Biological Sciences. The admission is based on the JGEEBILS ( GS- 2015 ) score. For PhD & Integrated PhD in Biological Sciences

Ph.D. in Biology:

Candidates should have 60% marks or equivalent CGPA for General / OBC ( 55% or equivalent CGPA for SC / ST ) in Masters in any branch of Science – Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics / Biological Sciences / Ecology & Environmental Sciences / Biodiversity / Psychology or equivalent. B.E / B. Tech / M. Tech or MBBS degree holders may also apply.

Additionally, the candidate MUST have qualified any ONE of the following exams:

National Eligibility Test ( NET ) with VALID CSIR-JRF / UGC-JRF

DBT-JRF-A / ICMR-JRF / DBT-BINC

CSIR-LSa* or DAE-JESTb* or GATEb* or GPATb* or NBHM in last two years

INSPIRE-Ph.D. fellowship

IISER BS-MSc* ( All IISERs ) Dual degree students

Rank / CGPA cutoffs for some of the aforementioned qualifying exams:

a*. For CSIR-LS rank-holders, up to rank 200 are eligible.

b*. For DAE- JEST / GATE / GPAT rank-holders, up to rank 500 are eligible.

c*. For IISER BS-MS dual degree students: Require CGPA which is greater than or equal to 7.0.

Note:

Candidates who are appearing for their final examinations of the qualifying degree program are eligible to apply. However, their admission, if selected, to the PhD program would be conditional to completing the qualifying degree, as per the criteria above, before 1st August 2015.

Applying does not automatically guarantee that a candidate will be shortlisted for interview. The department may use additional criteria in order to shortlist candidates for interviews depending on the number of applications received.

The Integrated PhD in Biology

Candidates should have completed Bachelor's degree in any of the basic sciences ( Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics ) with a minimum of 60% marks or a minimum CGPA of 6.0 out of 10 ( as declared by the Institute / University )
