North-Eastern Hill University was set up by an Act of Parliament and notified on 19th July 1973. The objectives of the University, as laid down in the act, are "to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit; to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people of the hill areas of the North-eastern region, and in particular, the intellectual, academic and cultural advancement".

Application in the prescribed form are invited for admission to the research courses of study in the North Eastern Hill University for PhD.in Information Technology (IT),Electronics & Communication Engineering ( ECE ),Nanotechnology, Management & Law in the academic session-2015-16. Programme commencing from August, 2015.

Foreign students admitted to different programmes of study at NEHU shall pay fee in the following manner at the beginning of each academic year either in US Dollars or equivalent in Indian Rupees as per the prevailing exchange rates:

Hostel Accommodation :

There are a few hostels providing seats to a limited number of male and female students in both Shillong campus and Tura Campus of NEHU.
At present the Shillong Campus has twenty two hostels accommodating students in either single or two / three bedded rooms.
All the hostels are provided with a common mess as well as sports and recreational facility. Students seeking hostel accommodation in Shillong Campus shall apply to Dean, Students’ Welfare (DSW), North- Eastern Hill University, Shillong, through their respective Heads of department, after completing the process of admission.
