Eligibility Criteria for South Asian University ( SAU ) PhD Entrance Exam 2015

South Asian University ( SAU ) has announced admission to various PhD programmes for the sixth academic session to commence in July 2015. There are two options for applicants to SAU programs. You can apply online or by paper application.

For Economics:

12 years of regular schooling + 3 or 4 year bachelor’s degree + post-graduate education leading to M.A. / M.Sc. degree in Economics or related specializations in Economics with at least 50% marks or an equivalent grade.

For Computer Science:

Master’s degree in Computer Science or allied discipline with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade.

Candidates who have obtained integrated Bachelor's and Master's degree will be eligible provided they have at least 5 years of university / institution education leading to a Master's degree after completing 12 years of schooling. Degrees from Government recognized universities / institutions will only be accepted.

For Biotechnology:

After 12 years’ schooling a 3 or 4 year Bachelors degree plus a 2 years’ post-graduate education leading to M.Sc. degree in any branch of Biological Sciences / M.Tech ( Biological Sciences ) / MBBS / M.V.Sc with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade.

Candidates should have a total education of at least 17 years including 12 years of school. Candidates who have undergone integrated Masters Degree will be eligible provided they have at least 5 years of college / university education leading to a Master’s degree after completing 12 years of school.

Degrees should be from an institution recognized by the Government of the respective SAARC countries.

For Sociology:

After 12 Years of schooling, 3 years’ Bachelor degree plus 2 years Post-graduate degree in Sociology or related disciplines like Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Social Anthropology, History, Philosophy, Linguistics, Mass Communication, Education, Geography, Law, Social Work, Development Studies, Criminology, Archaeology, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Post-Colonial Studies, Comparative Literature and Comparative Religious Studies; with a minimum of 50% marks, or an equivalent grade.

For International Relations:

After 12 Years of schooling, 3 years’ Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years post-graduate degree in international Relations or related disciplines like Political Science, Economics, Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, History, Philosophy, Linguistics, Mass Communications, Education, Geography, Law, Social Work, Development Studies, Criminology, Archaeology Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, Post-Colonial Studies, Comparative Literature and Comparative Religious Studies; with a minimum of 50% marks, or an equivalent grade.

For Legal Studies:

12 years’ schooling + 5 year integrated BA / LLB programme or 3 year Bachelor’s degree followed by 3 year LLB programme + 2 year LLM programme with 50% marks.

Those who have done LLB followed by one-year LLM degree with the prescribed 50% marks are also eligible.

For Applied Mathematics:

After 12 years of regular schooling, 3 or 4 years Bachelor's degree and a Master’s degree leading to M.A. / M.Sc. / M.Tech degree in Mathematics / Computer Science with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade

Or

After 12 years' of regular schooling, an integrated Bachelor's and Master's degrees of at least 5 years duration in Mathematics / Computer Science. Degrees should be from an institution recognized by the Government of the respective SAARC countries.
