SAU attracts students from all member nations and its degrees are recognized by all the eight SAARC countries. Admission Procedure for South Asian University ( SAU ) PhD Entrance Exam 2015

South Asian University ( SAU ) has announced admission to various PhD programmes for the sixth academic session to commence in July 2015. There are two options for applicants to SAU programs. You can apply online or by paper application.

Admit Cards will be sent to the applicants by email for taking the Entrance Test.

For Economics:

M.Phil / Ph.D. admission procedure will consist of two phases:

In Phase 1 there will be a screening test of 100 marks out of which candidates will have to get at least 50 marks to qualify for Phase 2. The exact number of candidates invited for the interview in Phase 2 will depend on the number of seats available.

In phase 2 the final merit list will be prepared on the basis of a research proposal ( 50 percent weightage ) and an interview ( 50 percent weightage ). A candidate will have to secure 50% marks separately in research proposal and interview

Research Proposal: Candidates have to submit a short research proposal of not more than 1500 words clearly indicating a research problem along with a proposed methodology to proceed with the problem. In this respect the candidates are advised to look at the research interests of individual faculty members to identify the broad research expertise in the faculty.

 

Interview: The interview will focus on a comprehensive understanding of Economics including the research proposal submitted by the candidate.

Candidates invited for interview will be given a travel subsidy ( upper limit INR 5000 ) towards actual travel cost by the shortest route as per instructions to be communicated to the selected candidates later. If candidates from outside India are unable to travel to New Delhi for the interview, they can seek permission for an interview through Skype.

Candidates should note that the final selection would be based on the compatibility of their proposal with the research interests of the faculty members.

For Computer Science:

Interview: Candidates up to four times the number of seats will be short-listed for interview on the basis of their performance in the entrance test subject to a minimum cut off. Interview will carry a weightage of 30 marks.

A minimum of 50% marks will have to be secured separately in both written test and interview in order to be eligible for the admission.

If candidates from outside India are unable to travel to New Delhi for the interview, they can seek permission for an interview through Skype. Final merit-list will be drawn by adding the entrance test and interview marks.

 Separate merit lists will be made for ( a ) candidates from all SAARC countries other than India, and ( b ) candidates from India. Equal number of candidates will be offered admission from these two lists, provided they secure overall qualifying marks of 50%.

For Biotechnology:

Admission Procedure through an Entrance Test and an Interview

Interview: Candidates up to five times the number of seats will be short-listed for interview on the basis of their performance in the entrance test subject to a minimum cut off.

The candidate will also arrange to send two recommendation letters from teachers who have taught and assessed the candidate during graduate / postgraduate studies.

Recommendation letters should testify to the intellectual acumen, knowledge of the subject and ability of the candidate to articulate ideas. Interview will carry a weightage of 30 marks.

A minimum of 50% marks will have to be secured separately in both written test and interview in order to be eligible for the admission.

 A final merit list will be drawn by adding marks of the entrance test and the interview. Separate merit lists will be prepared for ( a ) candidates from all SAARC countries other than India, and ( b ) candidates from India.

Equal number of candidates will be offered admission from these two lists, provided they secure overall qualifying marks of 50%.

 For Sociology:

Admission Procedure through an Entrance Test followed by an interview

Interview: The candidate can prepare for the interview on the basis of the information provided in the research proposal and statement of purpose while the interviewers will also base much of their questions on these documents.

The interviewers will also be guided by the letters of recommendation the candidate has already provided.

The candidate will be evaluated on the basis of his / her oral presentation skills, ability to articulate complex ideas, how he or she would respond to hypothetical field problems that may be posed etc. Candidates are encouraged to be creative and candid when facing the interview

50% of the seats are reserved for candidates from India and the other 50% from candidates for SAARC countries other than India, together.

Two separate merit lists will be prepared: one for candidates from India and the other combined merit list of candidates from all other SAARC countries.

For International Relations:

Admission Procedure through an Entrance Test followed by an interview

Interview: Candidates up to four times the number of seats who pass the written test must also face an interview either in person or via telephone / Skype / satellite.

The candidate can prepare for the interview on the basis of the information provided in the research proposal and statement of purpose while the interviewers will also base much of their questions on these documents.

The interviewers will also be guided by the letters of recommendation the candidate has already provided.

The candidate will be evaluated on the basis of his / her oral presentation skills, ability to articulate complex ideas, how he or she would respond to hypothetical field problems that may be posed etc. Candidates are encouraged to be creative and candid when facing the interview.

The interview performance of the candidate will be evaluated out of 10 marks.

50% of the seats are reserved for candidates from India and the other 50% for candidates from SAARC countries other than India, taken together.

Separate merit lists will be prepared for candidates from India and other SAARC countries combined.

Candidates should note that the final selection would be based on the compatibility of their proposal with the research interests of the faculty members

For Legal Studies:

Admission Procedure through an Entrance Test followed by an interview

The interview, for those who are shortlisted on the basis of the written test, will consist of 50 marks. The final merit list will be drawn on the basis of performance in the written test and interview.

For Applied Mathematics:
