Sikkim Police is the law enforcement agency of the government of Sikkim in India. It employs a large number of people to patrol the streets. It is headquartered in the state capital Gangtok. The Sikkim police is headed by a Director General of Police and falls under the purview of the state Home Department. Sikkim in general has a low crime rate. In March 2007 there was a fratricidal incident involving Sikkim Police detachment protecting a bank in Delhi. One jawan was accused of murdering five of his colleagues in retaliation for a sodomy attempt. However the details are unclear

Sikkim Police GD Constable, Constable Driver & Other Posts Recruitment 2014:

Applications in prescribed format along with 2 passport size photographs are invited from eligible male and female candidates to fill up (a) 450 posts of GD Constables in Armed Battalions, (b) 85 posts of Drivers, (c) 30 posts of Constables (Technical) in Communication Branch in the pay band of Rs. 5200 - 20200 plus grade pay of Rs. 2400 and other allowances as admissible under the rules and (d) 7 posts of Followers in the pay band of Rs. 5200 – 20200 plus grade pay of Rs.2200 and other allowances as admissible under the rules in Sikkim Police.

Age Limit:

Not less than 18 years and not more than 22 years as on 1st March, 2014 for GD Constable. Not less than 20 years and not more than 25 years as on 1st March, 2014 for Constable Drivers. In addition to the age prescribed above the candidates will be given relaxation of 5 yrs For BL/ST/SC, 4 yrs. for MBC and 3 yrs. for OBC. Upper age limit for HG candidates are 32 yrs. for BL/ST/SC, 31 yrs. for MBC and 30 yrs. for OBC.

Essential Qualification:

For GD Constable: Minimum class X passed from recognized Board for open candidates and class VIII passed from recognized Board for HG candidates who were enrolled before 4.9.2012 and class X who were enrolled after 4.9.2012.

For Constables: Minimum class VI passed

For constables / Technical: Minimum class XII passed in PCM.

Selection Procedure:

The candidates are selected through the process of

(a) Physical Measurement,

(b) Physical Efficiency/Endurance Test (PET),

(c) Written Examination

(d) Skill Test (For Drivers and Followers) &

(e) Viva-voce.

Physical Test – Dates & Venues:

Physical Measurement & PET shall be held at the following places. The police bus ferry service will be made available for the candidates for Gangtok from Police Headquarters and for Pipaley from Jorethang PS.

Mangan (Namphrikdang Ground, Upper Dzongu) –2nd April, 2014 from 8 am.

Pipelay (IRB Camp) –4th and 5th April, 2014 from 8 am daily.

Gangtok (Khel Gaon, Reshithang) – 9th, 10th and 11th April, 2014 from 8 am daily.

Written Test:

Candidates who qualify in the physical measurement and PET shall be called for the written test which will be announced / notified separately.

Viva-Voce:

Only those candidates who qualify in written test shall be called for viva-voce. The names of such candidates shall be displayed in PHQ, Gangtok and offices of respective District SsP.

MERIT LIST of HG candidates will be kept en-block below OPEN category candidates owing to their different minimum required qualification and separate syllabus for written examination.

How to Apply:

Application Forms can be obtained from the office of the Commandant/3rd IRBn, PHQ, Gangtok and the office of District SsP (North/South/West) on working days till 20th March, 2014 on production of Bank (SBS) Receipt for Rs. 70/= under revenue head 0055-Police-800 other receipts. The candidates must fill in application form with his/her own handwriting and affix his/her signature.

Candidates may apply for more than one post and give their order of preference for the post. Final selection will be done on the basis of merit and post applied for. A candidate should get registered from one centre only. Multiple registrations will be detected by the computer system and, if found, the candidature will be cancelled forthwith.
