Questions + Answers key
Take MCQ Business Maths and Statistics Test

1.
Probability of solving specific problem independently by A and B are \(\frac{1}{2}\) and \(\frac{1}{3}\) respectively. If both try to solve the problem independently, find the probability that the problem is
(i) solved
(ii) exactly one of them solves the problem
2.
Two urns contains the set of balls as given in the following table
| Title | White | Red | Black |
| Urn 1 | 10 | 6 | 9 |
| Urn 2 | 3 | 7 | 15 |
One ball is drawn from each urn and find the probability that
(i) both balls are red
(ii) both balls are of the same colour.
3.
Ten cards numbered 1 to 10 are placed in a box, mixed up thoroughly and then one card is drawn randomly. If it is known that the number on the drawn card is more than 4. What is the probability that it is an even number?
4.
Find out the GM for the following
| Yield of Rice (tones) | No. of farms |
| 7.5-10.5 | 5 |
| 10.5-13.5 | 9 |
| 13.5-16.5 | 19 |
| 16.5-19.5 | 23 |
| 19.5-22.5 | 7 |
| 22.5-25.5 | 4 |
| 25.5-28.5 | 1 |
5.
Calculate Quartile deviation and Coefficient of Quartile deviation of the following data.
| Marks: | 0 | 10 | 20 | 30 | 40 | 50 | 60 | 70 |
| No. of students: | 150 | 142 | 130 | 120 | 72 | 30 | 12 | 4 |
1.
P(\(\overline { A } \)) = \(\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \); P(\(\overline { A } \)) = \(1-\frac { 1 }{ 2 }= \frac { 1 }{ 2 }\)
P(\(\overline { B } \)) = \(\frac { 1 }{ 3 } \); P(\(\overline { B } \)) = 1 - \(\frac { 1 }{ 3 } \) = \(\frac { 2 }{ 3 } \)
(i) Probability that the problem is solved
= 1 - probability that the problem is not solved
\(=1-P(\overline { A } \cap \overline { B } )=1-P(\overline { A } ).P(\overline { B) } \)
\(=1-\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \times \frac { 2 }{ 3 } =1-\frac { 1 }{ 3 } =\frac { 2 }{ 3 } \)
(ii) Probability that exactly one of them solves
\(=P(A\cap \overline { B } )+P(\overline { A } \cap B)\)
= P(A). (\(\bar { B } \)) + P(\(\overline { A } \)).P(B)
\(=\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \times \frac { 2 }{ 3 } +\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \times \frac { 1 }{ 3 } =\frac { 2 }{ 6 } +\frac { 1 }{ 6 } =\frac { 3 }{ 6 }=\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \)
2.
(i) Probability that both balls are red
\(=\frac { 6 }{ 25 } \times \frac { 7 }{ 25 } =\frac { 42 }{ 625 } \)
(ii) Probability that both balls are of same colour
= P(WW) + P(RR) + P(BB)
\(=\frac { 10 }{ 25 } \times \frac { 3 }{ 25 } +\frac { 6 }{ 25 } \times \frac { 7 }{ 25 } +\frac { 9 }{ 25 } \times \frac { 15 }{ 25 } \)
\(=\frac { 30+42+135 }{ 625 } =\frac { 207 }{ 625 } \)
3.
S = {1, 2, 3,.....10}
n(S) = 10
Let B be the event of drawing a card greater than 4
B = {5, 6,.... 10}
\(P(B) =\frac { 6 }{ 10 } \)
Let A be the event of getting an even number
A = {2, 4, 6, 8, 10}
\(P(A) =\frac { 5 }{ 10 } \)
\(A\cap B\) = {6, 8, 10}
\(P(A\cap B)=\frac { 3 }{ 10 } \)
\(P(A/B)=\frac {P(A\cap B)}{P(B)}=\frac{\frac{3}{10}}{\frac{6}{10}}=\frac{3}{6}=\frac{1}{2}\)
4.
GM = Antilog \(\left( \frac { \sum { flogx } }{ N } \right) \)
| Yield of Rice (tonnes) | Mid x | f | log x | flog x |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7.5 - 10.5 | 9 | 5 | 0.9542 | 4.771 |
| 10.5-13.5 | 12 | 9 | 1.0792 | 9.7128 |
| 13.5-16.5 | 15 | 19 | 1.1761 | 22.3459 |
| 16.5-19.5 | 18 | 23 | 1.2553 | 28.8719 |
| 19.5-22.5 | 21 | 7 | 1.3222 | 9.2554 |
| 22.5-25.5 | 24 | 4 | 1.3802 | 5.5208 |
| 25.5-28.5 | 27 | 1 | 1.4314 | 1.4314 |
| \(\sum f= 68\) | \(\sum { flogx } \) = 81.9092 |
\(G.M=Antilog\left( \frac { 81.9092 }{ 68 } \right) \)
= Antilog(1.2045) = 16.02 tonnes
5.
| x | f | c.f |
| 0 | 150 | 150 |
| 10 | 142 | 292 |
| 20 | 130 | 422 |
| 30 | 120 | 542 |
| 40 | 72 | 614 |
| 50 | 30 | 644 |
| 60 | 12 | 656 |
| 70 | 4 | 660 |
| N = 660 |
Q1 = Size of \({ \left( \frac { N+1 }{ 4 } \right) }^{ th }\) value
= Size of (165.25)th value = 10
Q3 = Size of 3\({ \left( \frac { N+1 }{ 4 } \right) }^{ th }\)value
= size of (495.75)th value = 30
Q.D = \(\frac { 1 }{ 2 } ({ Q }_{ 3 }-{ Q }_{ 1 })=\frac {30-10}{2}=\frac { 20 }{ 2 } =10\)
Co-efficient of Q.D = \(\frac { { Q }_{ 3 }-{ Q }_{ 1 } }{ { Q }_{ 3 }+{ Q }_{ 1 } } =\frac { 20 }{ 40 } =\frac { 1 }{ 2 } \) = 0.5
