The active sites of enzymes hold the subsrate in a position so that can be attacked by the reagent effectively.

All these polysaccharides are made up of glucose units. In starch and glycogen, \(\alpha \)-glycosidic linkages are present while in cellulose, \(\beta \)-glycosidic linkages are present between glucose units.

In the formation of dinucleotides, the 3' -OH group of one nucleotide unit and 5' -OH group of the other nucleotide molecule are involved to form the phosphodiester linkage.The acid involved in this linkage is phosphoric acid and the word diester in this linkage indicates that two -OH groups of phosphoric acid are involved in the formation of ester linkages.
