The Dalit families were afraid of angering the powerful castes because they depended on them for their livelihood.

The two different provisions in the 1989 Act are:
(i) The Act recognises that crimes against Dalit and tribal women are of a specific kind and therefore seeks to penalise anyone who assaults or uses force on any woman belonging to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe with intent to dishonour her.
(ii) It lists actions that dispossess Dalits and Adivasis of their meagre resources or which force them into performing slave labour.

Morally reprehensible is used to describe any act which violates all norms of decency and dignity and goes against the values that a society has accepted.

The Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 was passed by the Central Government for the welfare of Adivasi and other forest-dwelling communities. This Act is meant to undo the historical injustices meted out to forest-dwelling populations in not recognising their rights to land and resources This Act recognises their right to homestead cultivable and grazing land and to non-timber forest produce. The Act also points out that the rights of forest dwellers includes conservation of forests and biodiversity

Every individual desires to live a life of dignity and respect and this can happen only when he/she is treated as an equal citizen in society. If he/she is deprived of this, he/she will fight for it because it is fundamental to a dignified life. When different people and communities co-exist, there is bound to be some dispute and both will demand equality and dignity. So struggle will be continued as long as all groups do not enjoy equal status in society

Kabir was a 15th-century poet and weaver. He belonged to the Bhakti tradition. Through his poetry, Kabir spoke about his love for the supreme being free of rituals and priests. It also expresses his sharp and pointed criticism of those he saw as powerful.
He denounced the caste system, he attacked those who tried to confine individuals to their caste and religion based identities. According to him, every person had the ability to reach the highest level of spiritual salvation and deep knowledge within themselves through their own experience. Kabir's poetry brings out the powerful idea of the equality of all human beings and thus is appreciated by Dalits, marginalised groups and those who oppose the social hierarchies.

This Act contains a very long list of crimes. It distinguishes several levels of crimes:
(a) It lists modes of humiliation that are both physically horrific and morally reprehensible and seeks to punish who
(i) force to member of a SC or ST to drink or eat any inedible or obnoxious substance,
(ii) forcibly removes clothes from the person of a member of a SC or a ST or parades him or her naked or with painted face or body or commits any similar act which is derogatory to human dignity.
(b) it lists actions that dispossess Dalit and Adivasis of their meagre resource or which force them into performing slave labour.
(c) The Act seeks to penalise anyone who assaults or uses force on any woman belonging to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe with intent to dishonour her.
