Raman and Sonu were friends. They both are student's of class XI. Many times Raman helped Sonu in his studies. One day, when they were discussing about electronic configuration, Raman told Sonu that writing electronic configuration is very important as this helps in knowing why the substances present around us differ from each other like water flows but salt or ice does not? How can we improve their properties and make them more useful? He also told Sonu that while writing electronic configuration, always follow, Pauli's principle, Hund's rule and Aufbau principle. After that the discussion, Sonu found this topic very easy.
(a) Write the electronic configuration of Na and Ar.
(b) What is the valency of Na and Ar elements?
(c) How can one predict the nature of compound with help of electronic configuration?
(d) What values are shown by Raman?(a)

CBSE 11th Standard Chemistry Subject Structure of Atom Value Based Questions 5 Mark Questions 2021 Answer Keys
-
(a) Na (11) = 1s2 2s2, 2p6, 3s1 or [Ne] 3s1
Ar (18) = 1s2 2s2, 2p6, 3s2, 3p6 or [Ne] 3s2, 3p6.
(b) Valency of Na is 1 and Ar is 0 as the former contains 1 electron in its valence shell whereas the valence shell of Ar is fully occupied.
(c) Electronic configuration shows that the element having one or two electrons more or less than the octet, generally lose or gain them and form ionic compounds whereas elements with 4 to 6 electrons in the valence shell generally form covalent compounds.
(d) Raman was intelligent, helpful, bright, knowledgeable student.
