-
The best example of a natural form of genetic engineering is Agrobacterium tumefaciens inserting genes into plants and getting the plants to express those genes in the form of proteins. This infection results in the formation of a gall or tumour in the host.
-
Viroids are smallest and simplest pathogenic agents comprising of 300-4000 bases long, circular, single standed, naked RNA. They are mechanically transferable and infect other parts of the plants. They have capability of being used as plant vectors
-
The best example is retroviruses which have ability to transform normal animal cells into cancerous cells. These tools of pathogens are now used as vectors for delevering genes of interest to humans. These pathogens are now converted into vectors so that they do not cause any disease.
