Delhi Consumer's Cooperative Wholesale Store Ltd is a registered society under Delhi Cooperative Societies Act. It was registered in the year 1962. It was set up for supplying Consumer goods to its affiliated various Primary Consumer cooperative Stores functioning in various parts of the metropolis. The need for establishment of this society arose during the post China aggression period when the prices of the essential commodities went sky-high in the market due to over-all shortages of consumer goods created by the traders by hoarding stocks for profiteering. The society was required to make bulk procurement of essential consumer goods from the sources and supply the same to the affiliated Primary stores & to public at large on reasonable prices, to enable those stores to sell the consumer goods to the public at lower prices than those prevailing in the open market.

Super markets are large retailing business units selling variety of consumer goods under one roof. They operated on low margin and have self-service facility.
Generally these are located in shopping centers. Goods are kept in such a way that consumer can see all that is available and choose what he wants. They take a trolley, pick up what they like, put it in the trolley, go to cash counter, pay, and take their goods after showing bill to the guard.
These generally operate like departmental stores but unlike departmental stores, they do not provide services like free home delivery, credit facilities, etc. they generally also not hire any sales staff to promote sales.

Three features of chain stores are as under:
2. (a) Central ownership and control: Multiple shops or chain stores are operated under the single management, control, and ownership of central business firm. Such stores are operated in different parts of cities, regions, and country. Sales managers are appointed to each store and given responsibility to handle their respective store strictly abiding by the central policy and direction.
(b) Uniformity in price and cash sales: Same or uniform price is fixed for same type of goods in multiple shops at different places. Goods are sold for hand cash.
(c) Limited range of products: All the multiple shops operated in different places sell only one type or limited types of products. The products sold out by all these shops are same in quality, quantity, shape, size, etc.

(c) Cheap price: Goods are found at cheaper price in supermarkets. As it is not necessary to appoint sellers in supermarket and operation cost goes low, goods are sold at cheaper price. Along with this goods are sold only for hand-cash, there does not appear financial crisis.
(d) Limited services to customers: Supermarkets do not provide services to customers as departmental stores provide. It provides nominal limited services to customers free of charge.
(e) Separate departments: In supermarkets, separate departments are operated for certain items (product lines). Supermarkets are organized.

(c) Products: Departmental stores stock a variety of products. Supermarkets do not usually stock clothing, jewelry, and hardware.
(d) Ownership: Departmental stores are not typically owned by corporate chains. Supermarkets are owned by corporate chains. -
