Sekar's family works in fields cultivating and growing crops. Sekar does not usually employ labourers for doing farming work because he owns a very small plot ofland and it is cultivated by him and his family. If outside help is needed at the time of harvesting, he takes help of other small farmers and in turn helps them harvest their field.

Both Sekar's and Aruna's families have to borrow because Sekar's family owns about 2 acres of land and produces about 60 bags of paddy, which is not sufficient for his family. So, he has to borrow money. Aruna's family has to borrow money because four months in a year are the breeding season and men cannot go to the sea.
Similarities
(i) Both have to work very hard, from morning till evening to earn their living.
(ii) Both are under the clutches of the traders, from whom they have borrowed money.
Differences
(i) Sekar is a small farmer and Aruna is a fisherwoman.
(ii) Sekar has to do additional work, while Aruna does not need so.

Tsunami is a Japanese word. It is made of two smaller words 'tsu' and 'nami'.
It is a killer wave. When the waves reach the coast, they gain both in height and'speed. They cause wide destruction, wash away the villages. The villages are flooded with water debris floating on the water. It takes away everything which comes in its way. The fishermen, who live near the coast, may have lost the huts and belongings.

The other shops of the village Kalpattu are:
(i) Blacksmith family whose home serves as their workshop. Next to their home is a cycle hire and repair shop.
(ii) There are also two washerman families. Some people go to nearby town to work as construction workers. Some work as lorry drivers.

Thulasi and Raman's one of the daughters fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital in town. They borrowed money from Ramalingam, so to pay back the money they had to sell their cow.

There are several ways to earn a living of rural areas. These are farming and non-farming activities.

People of rural areas are dependent upon the seasons, sometime they face problem such as failure of crops etc.

(vii) Crafting
Some of the people have shops such as blacksmith's shop, tea shop, grocery shop, barber shop, cycle repair shop etc.

(i) The picture states that - It is a transplanted paddy growing in a few of Ramalingam's 20 acres land.
It is a result of hard labour performed by agricultural workers like Thulasi.

They buy paddy from within the village and from surrounding villages The rice that is produced in the millis sold to traders in nearby towns. This gives them a substantial Income.
